New features and fixes in HelpHikes Pro 3.5.7
|
Improved Version Check: You will see a new Support menu that allows you to verify on the Internet whether any more updates are available for this software. The support menu also gives you information on other products.
Advanced WhizMenus: Two user contributed WhizMenus are now installed with this software. They contain more of the help authoring and HTML authoring markers. You need to switch to them from the default WhizMenu that contains only often used markers.
Fixes:
- Set Website URL on Tools menu caused a page fault in some cases. Fixed.
- On Windows 98, the "Open in Viewer" operation failed to work due to a GPF. This has been fixed.
- On Windows 98, a General Protection Fault (GPF) occurred sometimes, often when exiting the program. This has been fixed.

General new features in HelpHikes Pro 3.5
|
Improved Installation: The installation of HelpHikes Pro is now much improved to work on all Windows systems. Spelling-checker is now included in the install of the licensed version of HelpHikes Pro. You can now switch dictionaries from the Tools menu of HelpHikes Pro.
Improved file open and save interface: HelpHikes now uses the new File Open and Save dialogs as seen on Windows 95 and 2000.
Complete support for long file names: HelpHikes Pro now supports long file names by the use of 32-bit code. Hence, you can generate HLP files with long file names too.
Integration with WhizFolder Viewer: A new operation on the File Menu "Show Document in WhizFolder Viewer" allows you to start WhizFolder Viewer on your WZN notes.
Improved HTML authoring features: See Using HelpHikes Pro for HTML authoring.
New JumpFile links to other documents and web sites: See "Jumps to external documents and web sites" in the help file. This also describes the new JumpTxt feature.

New help authoring features in HelpHikes Pro 3.5
|
No more support for Windows 3.1: HelpHikes Pro no longer runs on Windows 3.1. It only supports 32-bit Windows 95/98/Me/2000. However, you can still use old DOS based help compilers to create Windows 3.1 compatible help files.
Better detection of HCW: HelpHikes Pro now does a better job of detecting and using Microsoft Help Workshop (HCW) on your system. Hence, even on Windows NT, now there is no problem as was in the earlier version. Now, HCW is the default help compiler used. If you want to use the old DOS based help compiler, you must specify it in GlobalHelpOptions in the forceHelpCompilerToUse parameter.
Improved sample help documents: Improved sample documents are now available in the "Sample Help" subfolder of HelpHikes Pro. The file names have changed to longer and more descriptive names.
New JumpFile links to other documents and web sites: See "Jumps to external documents and web sites" in the help file. Note that JumpFile and JumpFileShowText statements can now be compiled into help.
Generating Context IDs for programming languages other than C: Please see "Generating context numbers for context sensitive help" in the help file.
Jumps to targets within the topic text: Two new statements DefineTarget and JumpToTarget allow you to define targets within topics and to jump to them.
Reuse text with InsertText and ~text topics: See "Inserting the text of other topics" in the help file. This feature also allows topics to go beyond 32K limit.
New GlobalHelpOptions added: These are UseNonScrollingTitles, NoTopicTitlesAtTop, and TopicNamesAreNotKeywords
Quickly locate HelpTopic attributes for a topic: If you have coded a HelpTopic definition for a topic, you can quickly locate it by selecting the topic and pressing the button "HT" on the toolbar. This operation is also available on the Tools menu as well as on the right-click menu on the topic list.
Quickly locate GlobalHelpOptions: If you have coded a GlobalHelpOptions definition, you can quickly locate it by clicking on the menu "Tools--Locate GlobalHelpOptions" or on the right-click menu on the topic list under "Search for Help Attribute--GlobalHelpOptions."
Font related improvement in HPJ file: See "New! Font statement generated in HPJ for HCW compiler" in the help file.
WhizMenu files: The names of WhizMenu files have changed to longer names. Also, the default WhizMenu file, "WhizMenu Default.wzn," now uses fewer HHML items so as not to confuse the new users. If you find some items missing, you can copy those topics from the old default file wzmenur.wzn.
